The Gatewatch remain on the plane of Kaladesh and participate in the Aether Revolt. The Renegades have seized control of large portions of Ghirapur, the capital city. Led by Pia Nalaar and aligned with aether-pirates, essence-drainers and weaponsmiths, they seek to overthrow the authority of the Consulate. The Consulate responds with increased security and surveillance, the seizure of unregistered inventions, the monitoring of aether distribution, and the enforcement of a city-wide curfew. The Gatewatch and Ajani Goldmane support the renegades, while searching for the nefarious planeswalker Tezzeret. Whether you side with the Consulate or you've decided that, like the people of Kaladesh, you're not gonna take it anymore, Aether Revolt offers plenty of options for existing decks and new decks alike.
Kaladesh introduces two new keyword mechanics to Magic: Improvise and Revolt. Improvise enables you to pay generic mana cost with the help of your artifacts. Each artifact you tap after you're done activating mana abilities pays for. Revolt is an ability word that checks if a permanent you controlled left the battlefield this turn and if you fulfill the Revolt conditions, an additional effect occurs. The Energy and Crew mechanics carry over from the initial Kalaldesh set.
Expand your Magic: The Gathering deck with new cards from the Aether Revolt series! Aether Revolt is the second set in the Kaladesh block, and introduces 184 new cards to the series.
Magic: The Gathering Aether Revolt Booster Box is a fully-sealed box containing 36 Aether Revolt booster packs. Each booster pack includes 15 cards to add to your collection—and you can expect one of those 15 to be a rare or mythic rare. Some packs even contain a premium foil card! Furthermore, you have an extremely rare chance to open a deluxe premium card, one of the Kaladesh Inventions - Masterpiece Series. These Inventions feature 2 new mythic rares from the Aether Revolt set and 22 other notable Artifact reprints from Magic: The Gathering's long history, with new art and premium borders. They exist at a rarity higher than mythic rare. For example, in Aether Revolt, you will open a Kaladesh Inventions card roughly 1 out of every 144 boosters. (Technically, the Aether Revolt booster pack says the ratio is 1:2,160 cards.)
