In Splendor, players are merchants attempting to gain the most prestige points by buying gem mines, means of transportation and shops. If you loved Splendor and you’re ready to enhance your Splendor gaming experience, Cities of Splendor offers FOUR expansions in only one box; adding tons of different paths, strategies and playing styles to help you become the most prestigious merchant of the Renaissance era!
In The Cities expansion, the noble tiles are replaced with 3 different city tiles, which is chosen from a pool of 14 tiles. These city tiles become objectives that players must reach before winning the game. A player only has to fulfill one of these objectives to win.
The Trading Posts expansion consists of a variety of bonuses that are awarded by acquiring sets of development cards. For example, one bonus allows a player to receive more prestige points from the first noble tile you receive. Another bonus allows a player to receive an extra token when you choose the ‘Take 2 gem tokens of the same colour” action.
The Orient expansion adds three decks of cards that consists of special powers to the base game. Two cards per deck are drawn per level of development cards.
In the Strongholds expansion, each player gets three towers called strongholds. When a player acquires a new card, they may put a stronghold card on a face-up card on the table. That card is protected from other players, and only the player who placed that stronghold card can reserve or purchase that card. You may also move strongholds from one to another, or remove another person’s stronghold. If three of your stronghold cards are on the same card, you may buy it after taking your regular action, which basically gives you two turns. You may make two acquisitions in the same turn or buy a card after collecting tokens.
These expansions may be added to the base game, but should be played separately from the other expansions. Splendor base game is needed to play Cities of Splendor. Cities of Splendor is recommended for 2-4 players, ages 10 and up.
