We play many variations of Catan. Great game and this one is no exception. Cost for what is supplied is higher than it should be.

This is a great game. It’s a little confusing at first, but you get the hang of it as you make your way through the game. The board is a puzzle-piece style board, so you have to be careful not to damage it when putting it together and taking it apart. Read the rules a couple of times before playing.

I waited to get this for a while. Such a fun variation. Feels like a fast pace, more to keep your eye on with the wildlings. The Hero cards help things move along well too. Definitely recommend this version.

This is a nice variation to a familiar game. The miniatures the game comes with are unpainted, and of very high quality. The rules are similar to cities and knights, but keeps devlopment cards purchased with resources instead of the progress cards mechanic from c&k. The Wildling mechanic is akin to the barbarians with extra steps. The cards seem to be of a higher quality than what comes in your typical Catan game or expansion, so you might want to get some sleeves to keep them that way. Also includes “standard” Catan game on the reverse side of the board if you don’t already know how to play.

Cool Catan version!! though games are much longer and not as fun as the original one

I really like this game. It’s fun and good to spend a rainy day at home with family and friends.

If you are a fan of Catan and Game of Thrones, this is something you must get. The gameplay itself is still less intuitive comparing to the standard game but extra pieces make it fun. Think of it as a Catan expansion with wildings and different map layout.

Love this game it adds some extra to playing catan. Figuring out the rules are a little tricky but super easy once you read through the directions a few times. Even our novice catan friends enjoyed this. The graphics for this are perfect and the little pieces are super detailed and cute.

If you are a fan of Catan and are buying a copy of your own, get this one. It has the base game included with the GOT variation for those who have mastered the base or want something different. GOT variation is easy to understand if you know the base, and the game play time doesn’t increase by much too. Great value for money.

Our kids got us on the regular Catan and we were huge fans of GOT so only made sense. And right now hard to find board games so Amazon came through. The pieces are thick and sturdy not like paper. I gifted the extended version to my kids so we can all play as a family. Expensive as it seems we have had HOURS of fun!

If you love catan and you love game of thrones you should definitely get this game. Combines the catan you love with an additional game of thrones challenge twist. It’s so much fun!

Basic Overview:All in all, I really liked this twist on Catan. With this version, you can either play the original Catan game, or you can play a Game of Thrones style of Catan that includes brand new features: not only do you have to fight against each other to make sure you’re building enough settlements, but you also have to work somewhat together to defend against the white walkers who are trying to breach the wall. There’s a lot more to worry about with new ways to win the game and the wall element, making this a fresh update to Catan that doesn’t become overly complicated. The instructions give an awesome beginners’ guide with suggestions on how to play the first time, what characters to use, where to put resources, etc. We had a first time Catan player try the game out and he picked it up immediately and ended up winning the game against two Catan veterans.Outside of some box damage, all of the pieces looked really detailed, and we didn’t find any damage on any of the game pieces themselves. It looked like someone took a lot of time making sure the internal pieces would live up to both Game of Thrones and to the style of Catan.Shipping/Delivery:Delivery is the only reason that I’m not giving this 5 stars – it arrived on time just fine, and the plastic sleeve the box came in was undamaged. However, upon unwrapping we saw that the box itself had a few edges that were decently damaged. Not necessarily a huge deal, but my sister (whom I bought this for) was upset, since she cares a lot about keeping things in excellent condition. We had considered returning for this reason, but ultimately we decided to just go ahead and ignore the damage, since it was the holidays and we wanted to play the game as a family while we were all together.Box Contents:The detail in the game pieces was super nice – it looks like someone actually took the time to create the 3D models and they did not disappoint. There are a few new pieces in this version:The board of the game itself is double-sided: you can play either the Game of Thrones version of the game, or you can play the original Catan with GoT pieces.The box also comes with tons of extra plastic bags so you can organize the pieces that you punch out however you like, which was very helpful.Game Play: (assuming you already know basic Catan)We did not play the standard game for this set, and only played the GoT version two times. I imagine this becomes MUCH more intense when you get a group playing more frequently and you end up having more white walkers enter the game. In the GoT version of the game:Each player gets the same three standard pieces as normal Catan: A road, a settlement, and a keep. However, they also get a guard piece in addition. The guards sit on top of the wall and block white walkers from entering the map. Each player also gets a character card that they can use twice before taking a new character. Each character has a different ability, stealing resources, getting rid of walkers, etc.There are also now pieces to represent white walkers – three different characters represented by light gray. Each white walker has its’ own “powers” for what they can do and how destructive they are.As you play the game, with every settlements or keep that you build, you’ll generate one or two white walkers.With the white walkers, there are new ways to win the game: if a certain number of white walkers breach the wall, the game ends, and the person with the most guards on the wall wins. This ends up adding a nice twist to the game:You have to decide between building settlements and keeps for yourself, or you have to help the entire group try to stop the walkers.

Bought this to add to my table top collection. What I enjoyed about this game is that you still have the option to play catan without the GOT modifications if you wanted. The GOT mods remind me of releasing the haunt in Betrayal the one exception here being there are things you can do to avoid it. I played this with my family who aren’t big on table top games but enjoy GOT and they enjoyed the game.

What a fun game. It’s an awesome version of Catan even if you’re not a GOT fan. The addition of the wildlings forces players to play together to keep the wildlings at bay while you try to gather the points to win. Character cards with different abilities give another layer to the game that is fun time and time again!

I loved the original, so this was a fun twist to the game. I liked that you could play the original and then the game of thrones part.

If you like the original Catan, this game it fun. The board can be flipped to play the original or the new setup. More rules than the original so be ready to read. Still love the game.

I absolutely cannot recommend this product enough. If you like catan- this board alone is beautiful and much nicer than the basic catan boards. It is truly a piece of art! On top of being able to play the basic catan game, it comes with an entire set of a GOT version with multiple pieces and rules- we haven’t even gotten into it yet! Absolutely LOVE THIS! A wonderful gift and such a beautiful game.

My family really enjoyed the OG Catan and now we can spend time fighting over Game of Thrones Catan which is great because we basically ran out of ways to fight about the old one!

My family and I are Catan veterans. I’ve played standard, Seafarers, and Cities & Knights. Honestly, I had just expected this game to be just “Game of Thrones themed Catan”, that would have been easy for the game developers. However, the Brotherhood of the Watch Scenario was fresh, fun, and brought a whole new dynamic to the game. Honestly, I think it’s an improvement over Cities and Knights, it’s a new dynamic with players having to balance cooperation of defending the Wall with the competition of settling the Gift. The components are high quality, nothing seems cheap about the game. Not to mention there’s an ACTUAL WALL. I’d give it 5 stars, but I have to knock it down to 4 just because there were a few misprints on the box itself and the building guides… Which is slightly irritating but nothing the FAQ and errata FFG published can’t partial remedy. Makes me wonder though, with such great game mechanics why didn’t they bother to check for typos in the materials?

Bought this for my wife and her family, they love the original Catan and Game of Thrones. This worked out and they loved the gameplay twists that are involved and that this isn’t simply a re-skin of the original Catan. Also bought the 5-6 player expansion for them. Go big or go home.

Every day I’m shuffling!

Catan is a great strategy game. This version adds even more strategy and opportunities to win vs the original. If you have someone in your family that loves these types of games, this is a great new version that I have not seen before. My college kids started playing the original and would spend hours playing with friends. This was a Christmas present and we all had fun playing it! Amazon had the best prices for this game. I looked in all the stores and couldn’t find a better price.

This is a beautiful fun family edition of the classic and new game Catan. You don’t have to know the show GOT o play at all! You can play the original game Catan or you can play the game with the additions of the wall and adventure with the wildlings (ok that part only the GOT fans will get) the whole game is well crafted and my whole family loves to sit and play. We have a 7 yo and a 9 yo they LOVE the game both ways……… again the game designers did great keeping it G rated for the whole family! Get this game it’s amazing.

Actually better than the original game but the game manual is very hard to follow. After watching several tutorials on Youtube we finally learned all of the rules. Great game but very hard to learn.

Some changes to the gameplay give a fresh feel, but the roots are still there.

Such a fun take on the classic Catan game. Above and beyond what I was expecting.

We really enjoy this version. It is a little bit difficult because there are so many moving parts but we greatly enjoy the fact that it is not just Catan with different characters. It is pretty much a whole different game with the Catan element. You also don’t need to be a GOT fan to enjoy this version. Would definitely recommend for people who like Catan but want to switch it up a little.

We play Catan often. It’s kind of our family thing. We have regular Catan, the expansion pack, and Seafarers. We even have a gorgeous handcrafted set made by Thinking Monk. Yes, we are serious players. It gets pretty fierce, bringing out the sibling rivalries and old family vendettas. So, adding the GoT version seemed natural since we are like the Starks and Targaryens anyway. GoT Catan is absolutely worth it and a great addition to our stack of Catan boxes. It is not a retread with new graphics. It is a whole new game.While you are collecting resource cards and development cards, wheeling & dealing to build your roads and settlements, and racking up those victory points, you now need to add guards to the wall and keep the wildlings out. This is a collective effort that you need to undertake to protect the Gift from wildlings. You have help from hero cards as well as development cards. If the wildlings make it over the Wall, they will block your resources. Too many wildlings over the Wall will end the game and your settlements will be worth nothing – the guards will save (and rule) the day. These additions add cooperation to the game and give you more ways to win. You still have hidden victory points on development cards and the longest road to add to your tally, but now guards are another way to rack up those VPs and claim your rightful title as Lord Commander of the Watch.If you enjoy Catan, you’ll likely have fun with this more complicated version. If you are new to Catan, play the regular game first. A few of the hero cards seemed a bit difficult to understand so we referred to the instruction booklet often. We still have a question about one card and need to do a bit of online research about that and another rule. We watched a few YouTube videos on setup and game play before embarking on our journey to build and defend. Yes, it’s an investment of time. But, next time we play, we’ll be ready to go. Those wildings won’t know what hit ’em. Now, who has some ore they can trade me for a sheep?

Enjoyable version but I would start with the base game. My only complaint is that the tabs holding the board together are to small and week. One has started to tear after one assembly. I expect much better for the price.

We are avid Catan players, and when I saw they released a GOT version I immediately bought it. The price was more than I expected, however once you open the game and see the intricacies you realize it’s definitely worth every cent. Had friends over that week and played our first game, we all LOVED it. Buy it & be happy.

I love catan but I honestly have to say this version is better than the base game. With more twists and turns/ways to win it keeps you on your toes and leaves open the possibility for anyone to win. You do not have to be a game of thrones fan at all, the only thing that makes it GOT is the names of the heroes and the wildlings but the wildlings are basically just invaders and heroes give you special abilities. Everyone in my group caught on quickly and we continue to frequent game nights with what feels like a different game every time. Highly recommend, especially for catan fans looking for a little more fun!

Super complicated to understand but amazing game

Huge catan fan and this was a fun take on the game. If you think it’s exactly like normal catan but just with a theme, you’re wrong. There are a whole new complex set of rules and strategy with this game of thrones catan. The rules were extremely confusing to understand. I recommend going on YouTube and watching tutorials of how to play this game. That’s what we had to do. Even a pro gamer who reviews games on YouTube for his career said the rule book was superfluous and way too complex to understand. He had to play a couple times to finally understand what the rules were trying to explain. It’s definitely a investment of your time to watch the youtube turtorials but worth it rather than trying to read through the rules multiple times and still not understand.

This game is fun and i like the variant of GOT that has,The miniature are CoolBut they are 3 bad things about this game1- the price, I think is wayy to expensive, i got this game online for half of the price (brand new)2- you have to buy the Expansion kit for play with 5 – 6 players when I think that I should be included with the price of the game.3- the card sleeves are to big, so make sure that those sleeves fit Magic the Gathering Cards to fir perfectly.

The game comes with the base instructions as well as the game of thrones version. It was wonderful to play and even as an entry into Catan – still very playable.

This version of Catan plays very well. It’s still Catan but with the infusion of the GoT theme. It feels like the theme adds to the game rather than just a re-skinning of the original with some hokey references added. I purchased at a discount but it is well worth MSRP in my opinion.

This was a Christmas gift and they love it

This game never gets old! It’s a great special edition of the original Catan, and in my opinion, is way more entertaining and challenging than the original version. The additions this game includes makes it a lot more fun for adults, as I and my friends (20’s and 30’s) can play this game 2-3 times each weekend without getting sick of it. The game originally had some printing flaws, but nothing that’d I’d discount this review for. It’s expensive, but definitely worth it. We’ve used it a ton and it’s still holding up well. Would definitely recommend!

Love this game but we only play the basic rules. The GOT part is hard to figure out.

Got this for a weekend with the family. We played non-stop the entire weekend. If you like both GOT and Catan this is perfect for you.

What a fun game. It’s an awesome version of Catan even if you’re not a GOT fan. The addition of the wildlings forces players to play together to keep the wildlings at bay while you try to gather the points to win. Character cards with different abilities give another layer to the game that is fun time and time again!

Interesting twist to the game of catan..My sis just loves it.

If you like the original Catan, this game it fun. The board can be flipped to play the original or the new setup. More rules than the original so be ready to read. Still love the game.

In most stores I’ve seen this is in the $80 range so this was the cheapest I found. Even $80 would be a reasonable price once you see all the figures it comes with (so cute! And so many).Great game if you are a fan of GOT and regular catan is getting too easy/repetitive. Has a nice twist that follows the show, taking place in The Gift (the northern region). You still compete against each other with a lot of the rules being the same as regular Catan, but you have the added element of fighting off wildlings almost like a team. How much teamwork you put in depends on the placement of your settlements, the hero’s others have in play, and your personality. My family quickly discovered who the Jon Snow’s and Cersei’s were, lol!Overall I would definitely recommend and can’t wait to play again! ❤️

I’m a long time Catan play. I totally thought this was just going to be a reskin and changing the names of the cards. NOT THE CASE!!! This is a fresh new take on Catan and something different for those veteran players. As others have noted there are problems with the cards and rules. Catan has errata (explanations of errors) on their website. They also even have printable edits you can print and tape to the card. While this may seems cheesy, its really not too bad. I recommend doing it so you don’t forget to explain it to newcomers. Overall this game is well worth the sale price of this game, I am not sure I would bay 79 dollars for it but for <50 its a great pickup.

A must have for any fan of Catan or Game of Thrones.

Everything I wanted and more

This is regular catan with 2 new additions. The first is the hero cards which allow players to use abilities and these are important. It’s very similar to Star Trek Catan if you’ve played that. These abilities are powerful and if you neglect them you will probably lose (also if you get stuck with a bad card, although after the beginning you can choose). The second mechanic are the wildlings which basically act like additional robbers. They impact the spots closest to the wall first, but those spots have the best dice roll markers so you have to choose your starting locations carefully.Should also mention you can play the base or regular catan with what’s included here so if you are choosing between this and regular catan, know that this basically comes with regular catan included.
