The Brothers of the Night’s Watch seeks to appoint a new leader from among their ranks. Candidates for this position must be able to improve the infrastructure of Gift. Not only that, they must also man and defend the wall against the constant waves of Wildlings fighting their way into Westeros. In A Game Of Thrones: Catan - Brotherhood of the Watch, players take the role as brothers of the Night’s Watch all competing for the ultimate title of Lord Commander. You must do whatever in your power to protect and build Westeros into a powerful kingdom. Only one person will rise above their brothers!
Like base Catan, A Game Of Thrones: Catan - Brotherhood of the Watch’s game board is made up of a map of the Gift, with each space providing one of the five possible resources: lumber, brick, wool, grain and ore. During the course of the game, players will utilize and trade these resources with one another in order to strengthen their hold on the north by building roads, settlements and keeps; recruiting guards for their patrol; or buying development cards. Each of these actions brings players increased power and recognition through victory points. But this is no easy feat, as the Wildlings from the north have crossed over and are looking to wreak havoc on the Gift by breaching your defences on the northern Wall! Among them is Tormund Giantsbane who does not respect the Watch’s claim on the land; his only purpose is to rob you of resources from the Brothers that are used to provide for the Order.
There are two ways to victory. The first way is when a player successfully improves infrastructure in the Gift AND keeps the Gift defended from the Wildlings. This is shown through earning ten victory points and earning any combination of building keeps, roads and settlements, hiring three or more guards to keep the Wall safe and buying development cards to increase prestige. The other way is less savoury. If the Wildlings breach the wall three times during the course of the game, an alternate victory takes place instead. The game ends immediately as the Watch can not delay its decision. The player commanding the most guards holding their posts on the wall will gain the title of Lord Commander and win the game.
A Game Of Thrones: Catan - Brotherhood of the Watch is recommended for 3-4 players. ages 14 and up.
