As the name suggests, 7 Wonders: Duel is a game solely for two players. It takes the resource and development elements from its parent game 7 Wonders and retools it for a 1-on-1 combat scenario. Players draft not from a hand of cards, but rather from a display of face-down and face-up cards arranged at the start of each round. Just like in the original 7 Wonders, any of the cards that you acquire can be built, discarded for coins, or used to construct a wonder.
Players start out with four wonder cards and successfully constructing a wonder will provide that player with that wonder’s special ability. However, only seven wonders can be built throughout the course of the game, so one player will always end up short. Players can gain resources from drawing cards and purchasing from the bank. Additionally, as one player acquires resources, the cost for those particular resources increases for your opponent, representing his or her dominance in this area.
A player can win 7 Wonders: Duel in one of three ways:
1. Each time a player acquires a military card, he or she advances the military marker toward their opponent's capital, giving you a bonus at certain positions. If you reach the opponent's capital, you win the game immediately!
2. Similarly, if a player acquires any six of seven different scientific symbols, they achieve scientific dominance and win immediately!
3. If neither of these situations occurs, then the player with the most points at the end of the game wins.
7 Wonders: Duel is recommended for 2 players, ages 10 and up. Gameplay lasts around 30 minutes.
