A “top-down” designed set, Amonkhet was developed and designed with inspiration of Ancient Egypt and the imagery of the infamous Elder Dragon Planeswalker Nicol Bolas. Amonkhet is a plane ruled by Nicol Bolas. The desert oasis forges warriors who train their entire lives for a chance to face the Trials of the Five Gods, join the elite ranks of the Worthy, and to claim an honored place in the Afterlife. They prepare for the great God-Pharaoh's return. Following the events of the Aether Revolt on Kaladesh, the Gatewatch arrives on Amonkhet to take out Bolas, but are surprised at the people and culture that they meet on the plane.
Amonkhet introduces three new named mechanics to the Magic: Embalm, Exert, and Aftermath. Embalm, is an ability can only be activated if the creature is in the graveyard. When activated, the card is exiled and creates a token copy of itself. This creature token is a copy of the embalmed creature, except that it is a zombie in addition to its other creature types and monocolored white. Exert is an option when you declare an attack with a creature with this ability. If you choose to exert, the creature gains a bonus. If you did, the creature won't untap as normal during your next untap phase. Aftermath is a new twist on previous Split cards and halves the card itself into two separate abilities. The Aftermath spell may only be cast from your graveyard. The card is exiled after casting from your graveyard.
Expand your Magic: The Gathering deck with new cards from the Amonkhet series! Amonkhet is the first set in the Amonkhet block and introduces 269 new cards to the game.
Magic: The Gathering Amonkhet Booster Box is a fully-sealed box containing 36 Amonkhet booster packs. Each booster pack includes 15 cards to add to your collection—and you can expect one of those 15 to be a rare or mythic rare. Some packs even contain a premium foil card! Furthermore, you have an extremely rare chance to open a deluxe premium card, one of the Amonkhet Invocations - Masterpiece Series. These Invocations feature 5 new mythic rares from the Amonkhet set and 25 other notable card reprints from Magic: The Gathering's long history, with new Amonkhet-inspired art and premium borders. They exist at a rarity higher than mythic rare. For example, in Amonkhet, you will open an Amonkhet Invocations card roughly 1 out of every 144 boosters. (Technically, the Amonkhet booster pack says the ratio is 1:2,160 cards.)
